Imprints/Memory

My Artwork explores the effect of old native trees being replaced by urban sprawl on the habitat of the black cockatoo. This impact has led to a decrease in their prevalence reflected in the forms of the birds in my artwork becoming less recognisable. Only the fallen feathers and the imprints on the buildings remain, revealing the permanent nature of this destruction with the remnants of their grace in their delicate feathers. My artwork explores the detail, colour, shapes, forms and fragility of feathers to reflect the delicate balance of the natural habitat of the black cockatoo and the affects of human impact. The graceful black cockatoos once abundant in nature are now becoming fleeting and fragmented, only catching glimpses. They are close to becoming a memory, leaving only the imprints of feathers.

Louvre Abu Dhabi

The Abu Dhabi Louvre designed by Jean Nouvel retains the focus of the collection of buildings on the encompassing dome roof. It fits seamlessly with the ocean it sits in due to its natural white palate and single floor layout. The clean lines of the walls rise from the sea to meet the curved dome in a simplistic and complementary way. The light is able to filter into the museum with its inspiration coming from the dappled sunlight caused by palm trees. The shade provided by the dome also reduces the energy used by each building and provides shade to visitors. 

Growing Terraces

These growing terraces in Moray, Peru were used by the Incans to acclimatise sea level crops to the cool temperatures of high altitude. The terraces utilise the shape of the hill to create a central warm microclimate. The centre ring is the warmest, imitating the warmer temperature and conditions near sea level with the temperature range from the middle to the outside being 15°C. The seeds are transferred from level to level until the seeds most suited to the high altitude conditions are left and are used to grow crops to feed the people.
